History House Zoudenbalch:
In the center of Utrecht there is a unique monument building on the Donkerstraat which surely catches your attention when you walk by. The beautiful city castle on the Donkerstraat was built in 1467 on behalf of Evert Zoudenbalch. After that it had various destinations, as a chaplain building and secretariat of the Catholic church, artisanal school and warehouse with showrooms of middle classes, with as last, until 2008, the Foundation Nature and Environment. In 1903 the building was destroyed by a fire. The characteristic neo-Gothic façade of Namur stone, battlements, cross-bar frame, stained glass windows with red shutters, have all been restored in original style during the renovation.
In 2011 House Zoudenbalch was completely renovated and converted into a complex with 24 unique apartments. The apartments are all different and well isolated. There is a communal courtyard and bicycle storage.
